What do polar bears look like?
Even though polar bears' fur may look white it is actually translucent fur. Polar bears' translucent fur is made up of 2 layers. The bottom layer is the undercoat and the outer layer is made up of guard hairs. Underneath the layers of fur, there is actually black skin.
Polar bears are superb swimmers
Polar bears are excellent swimmers because of their long necks which help them keep their heads above the water to breathe and their paws act like paddles while swimming in the water and hunting for marine animals. Another reason polar bears are excellent swimmers is polar bears have 2 - 4 inch layers of fat which keeps them warm while swimming.
Polar bears are very large
Polar bears are the largest land carnivore and can weigh up to 1760 pounds which is 800 kg. Polar bears can grow up to 8 feet long and their paws can grow to 12 inches and because of their big size it is easy for them tu hunt animals like walruses and beluga whales easily.
Where do polar bears live ?
Polar bears live in the United States, Greenland, Norway, Russia. Up to 80 percent of polar bears live in 1 country and that is canada. Most of the time polar bears are on top of Sea ice. Between 22,000 and 31,000 polar bears are in the wild.
